Savita Dhapwal, 53

“I became a mountaineer as I am fond of mountains. I wish to see the enthralling beauty every day of my life. I love to live in the lap of the great mountains. Whenever I see snow-capped mountains, I feel like there's a magical and a magnetic connection between me and the mountains which attracts me towards it and I've always been fascinated by the majestic mountains. When Bachendri didi gave me this opportunity to be a part of this expedition, I didn’t want to lose it. This is the reason I am so excited for this endeavour.”

A dream has come true for Savita – A golden opportunity to traverse the vast expanse of the Great Himalayan chain for the eastern to western extreme. Savita , an ace mountaineer and lecturer at the Education Department of Bhilai Steel Plant, SAIL has scaled numerous peaks above the 7000m mark.  In her words,”FIT@50+ is a message to all those people who think people in their 50s and 60s should retire and relax at their home”. Her education in the field of Geography assists the team in calculating the terrain and climatic conditions of the trekking area. Savita is a recipient of the National Adventure Award in the year 1994.

Mountaineering is a hobby which consists of various challenges, such as physical and mental stamina, filled with unprecedented challenges like harsh weather and tough terrain. She is wrapped up in a feeling of honour to join her idol and inspiration for mountaineering, Ms Bachendri Pal in this expedition. She is excited to be in this circle of veteran mountaineers and learn a lot from them. Her ability to outstand adversities will assist the team in moving forward in times of distress that is bound to arise given the erratic Himalayan climate. She strives hard to be an asset to the team, be it physical or mental. The knowledge coupled with experience of every team member will be a boon in one or the other way during the entire expedition.
